Commune Editions is pleased to host Justin Sanders’ for all the other ghosts.
Wendy Trevino has this to say about the book:
The call came from inside the house:” with this opening line, Justin Sanders sets out in a debut collection of interlocking short stories based in his hometown of Baltimore, MD. Published in May 2016, for all the other ghosts blurs the distinction between genre and literary writing by incorporating the histories of figures like Malinche, Josefa Segovia and the unnamed, murdered Black women whose reflections look back at anyone who looks long enough at Baltimore’s Pataspco River. The resulting “ghost stories” have a particular resonance in the wake of the murder of Freddie Gray and the subsequent riots and protests that erupted in Baltimore in 2015. Those for whose experience colonial, patriarchal and racial violence has been foundational haunt Baltimore, but that is also to say that, in Baltimore, the past might be redeemed, but not buried.
